Nigeria and Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has revealed why the Super Eagles have managed to weather all the storms at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
The Super Eagles booked their 2025 AFCON quarter-final place after thumping Mozambique 4-0 in the last 16 on Monday.
รric Chelle’s team is undoubtedly one of the favourites to win, looking at their record in the initial stages. They came through the group stages with three wins, defeating Tanzania 2-1, Tunisia 3-2, and Uganda 3-1.
Beating Mozambique set them on the way to the quarter-finals, where they will face Algeria on Saturday. And for Nwabali, only one wholesome factor has helped them weather all the storms and opponents at the ongoing tournament in Morocco.
The 29-year-old has played in three matches at the tournament, starting in the group games against Tanzania and Tunisia. He got a breather against Uganda and was back between the sticks for the Mozambique showdown.
NWABALI CREDITS EXPERIENCE FOR THE SUPER EAGLES’ AFCON IMPRESSION
Speaking after they secured a quarterfinal spot, Nwabali said previous experiences and international exposure have made The Super Eagles a cut above the rest.
“You know, having a lot of, I wouldn’t say experienced players, but guys that have been in this tournament maybe once or twice. You know, it’s a tournament you can’t just start once,” he said.
“It’s something you graduate, you keep playing, you trying to improve. The best part of it is that we are trying to improve. You can see our last game; the game is not the same.”
Nwabali added: “Like I said, it’s a group of experienced players. I wouldn’t say quality. They know how to handle games. I won’t talk about our next game because we’re going to prepare for the next game.”
