Kaizer Chiefs striker Tashreeq Morris is on the verge of a move to Stellenbosch FC, a transfer that would see him reunite with his former mentor, Gavin Hunt, during the January window.
Morris has endured a frustrating period at Naturena since joining the Glamour Boys exactly a year ago. Despite being signed during Nasreddine Nabi’s tenure to bolster the attack, the 31-year-old has struggled to find his footing, failing to repay the club’s faith with consistent performances.
After making 10 appearances last season without scoring, the 2025/26 campaign has been particularly difficult for Morris. He joined Chiefs from SuperSport United last campaign.
Morris has largely been a peripheral figure in the Amakhosi squad, featuring in just one competitive match this season. He came on as a late substitute in the Carling Knockout Cup Round-of-16 clash against Stellies.
His situation has further worsened with the arrival of strikers Etiosa Ighodara, Flavio Da Silva, and Khanyisa Mayo. Amakhosi already had Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez ahead of him in the pecking order.

TALKS FOR MORRISโS STELLENBOSCH SWITCH ADVANCED
Talks to move Morris to the Winelands side are at an advanced stage. Stellies recently underwent a major coaching change, appointing veteran tactician Gavin Hunt to replace Steve Barker, who departed to join Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
Hunt, who previously coached Morris at SuperSport United, is known for getting the best out of the strikerโs physical presence and work rate. The reunion will fill the void left by Andre De Jong, who recently completed a high-profile switch to Orlando Pirates.
Before his move to Stellenbosch, Hunt attempted to lure Morris to Durban City FC earlier this season, later clarifying that the move’s collapse was a matter of timing rather than a reflection of the striker’s ability. Hunt explained that because negotiations with Chiefs stalled, he made the decision to pivot to the immediately available Letsie Koapeng to avoid missing out on a mid-season reinforcement. The veteran coach maintained that the choice was a tactical call dictated by budget constraints and the need for a swift resolution, rather than a lack of interest in reuniting with his former protรฉgรฉ.
Morris brings a wealth of Betway Premiership experience to any outfit. His career has seen him feature for several top-flight clubs, including Ajax Cape Town, Cape Town City FC, Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United.
