DDC: Chiefs sink Sundowns as Pirates move 7 points clear

Kaizer Chiefs Reserves clash with Mamelodi Sundowns Reserves

The DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] weekend concluded with a blockbuster Sunday clash, as Kaizer Chiefs outclassed Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Mbombela.

The Soweto giants have continued their rich vein of form after a slow start to the campaign, showing drastic improvement since returning from their UK tour.

Amakhosi have turned a seven-game winless run into five consecutive victories. This streak includes wins over the log leaders and their most fierce rivals, Orlando Pirates.

It has been a compelling turnaround for the Glamour Boys, with each of their five victories achieved by convincing margins. Their 2-0 win over Sundowns brings their total to 14 goals in just five matches.

For Sundowns, the defeat is a major blow to their title aspirations. Masandawana now trail Pirates by seven points at the season’s halfway mark.

Despite the victory, Chiefs remain in fifth place with a game in hand.

Orlando Pirates remain the most consistent team in the current campaign having once again bagged victory on matchday 15.

The Kanyamazane Stadium also hosted the Buccaneers when they managed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Marumo Gallants in the second fixture of the Saturday edition.

Reserving a goal for each half, Pirates displayed yet another dominant performance over their opponents.

Pirates have demonstrated an impressive blend of attacking power and defensive solidity, have secured their fifth consecutive victory without conceding a single goal.

The Buccaneers will now look to tighten their grip on the number one spot as they continue their pursuit of a maiden DDC title.

Siwelele FC and Durban City FC presented what was perhaps the most entertaining encounter of matchday 15.

The UJ Soweto Campus hosted the six-goal thriller which saw Siwelele defeat Durban City 4-2 on Sunday.

Despite going down by four goals at halftime, the Citizens returned to the second half with a strong response. Nevertheless, their two second half goals were not enough to avoid a nine-game winless run.

Meanwhile, Siwelele remain hot on the heels of Sundowns as they now go one point behind the league chasers with 29 points collected.
