Why Mwaruwari backs Daniel Msendami’s move to Orlando Pirates

Former Zimbabwe national team captain and ex-Jomo Cosmos, Bidvest Wits and Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari has explained why he backs Daniel Msendami’s big move to Orlando Pirates.

Msendami completed a permanent transfer to the Soweto giants from Marumo Gallants on Tuesday.

The winger faces stiff competition from Bafana Bafana internationals Oswin Appollis, Tshepang Moremi and Relebohile Mofokeng. There have been questions back in Zimbabwe over whether he will get game time at the Soweto giants.

Speaking from his base in the United Kingdom, the former Chippa United striker believes the timing of the move is just right.
“For me, Daniel made a good move. In football, a player must not hesitate to take big steps,” Mwaruwari told FARPost. “This move came at the right time because Daniel has been in South Africa for over a season now and understands exactly what is required in that league.”

Mwaruwari added that Msendami must make an immediate impact at Pirates.

“He must hit the ground running. Pirates are a big club, so the move comes with pressure, but he shouldn’t let that weigh him down. Instead, he must focus on assisting, scoring, creating chances and impressing the Buccaneers.”

BENJANI MWARUWARI’S ADVICE TO DANIEL MSENDAMI

The Warriors legend also shared advice on how Msendami can enjoy a successful spell at the Soweto-based club.

“He must put his head down, respect all his teammates and not think that the coach who signed him guarantees him a place because they previously worked together.

“He has to work hard and stay away from off-the-field activities that are not encouraged, because Jozi is always Jozi,” Mwaruwari said with a laugh.

Msendami has now become the 13th Zimbabwean to play for Orlando Pirates, following in the footsteps of the late Tendai Ndoro, Edelbert Dinha, Takesure Chinyama, Zvinyika Mokonese and Terrence Dzvukamanja, among others.
