The Confederation of African Football [CAF] has promised action against those who would be found guilty of inappropriate action following embarrassing scenes during the 2025 AFCON final on Sunday.
The final match between Morocco and Senegal at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat was marred by controversy.
Senegal were crowned champions after a Pape Gueye extra-time goal. It was a second AFCON title for the West African country.
However, descended into chaotic scenes near full-time with Senegal players leaving the field for their dressing room, threatening to boycott the remainder of the clash. It took Sadio Mane, who was voted player of the tournament, to convince his teammates to return to the field.
UGLY SCENES DURING AFCON FINAL AFTER A CONTROVERSIAL PENALTY
The incident came after referee Jean Jacques Ndala, in consultation with VAR, awarded Morocco a controversial penalty in the dying minutes of the match.
The match was delayed for about 17 minutes after Senegal coach Pape Thiaw seemed to call his players off the field, and they went down the tunnel before being called back by Mane. However, Diaz went on to miss the penalty, which resulted in the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists losing the match.

CAF INVESTIGATING MOROCCO V SENEGAL MATCH PLAYED IN RABAT
In a statement issued on Monday, CAF says it is reviewing all footage before they refer the matter to relevant bodies.
“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) condemns the unacceptable behaviour of some players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat last night,” said CAF.
“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organisers.
“CAF is reviewing all footage and will refer the matter to competent bodies for appropriate action to be taken against those found guilty.”
