Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United have shown a huge interest in signing talented midfielder Thato Khiba from Stellenbosch FC in the current January transfer window.

The Limpopo-based outfit has been strengthening its squad in the mid-season transfer window as it looks to continue chasing the big guns for the league title.

Sekhukhune have had a decent showing in the first round of the 2025/26 season after proving to be one of the strongest teams under the guidance of head coach Eric Tinkler.

In the first-half of the season, Sekhukhune claimed seven wins, four draws, and two losses in 13 league matches. They are currently sitting third on the log standings behind Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns after accumulating 25 points.

Babina Noko has already shown their intentions to compete after completing the signing of Bradley Mojela, Amade Tidiane Diomande, and Bafana Bafana midfielder Lebohang Phiri on a free transfer.

With the transfer window open until the end of January, Sekhukhune are looking to sign Stellenbosch midfielder Thato Khiba to bolster the depth in their squad. FARPost has established that Stellenbosch wanted Wonderboy Makhubu, who is on loan at Magesi FC from United, as a swap deal for Khiba. However, the Simon Malatji-owned team is reluctant to let go of the striker.

In the current campaign, Khiba has made 21 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist under Steve Barker, before he left the club to take a coaching job with Simba SC in Tanzania.

The 29-year-old joined Stellies in January 2025 from TS Galaxy after producing commanding performances in the middle of the park. In his one year in the colours of Stellenbosch, Khiba played 42 matches, registering three goals and one assist.
