When will injured Saleng debut for Sundowns? Timeline revealed

Monnapule Saleng at Mamelodi Sundowns training session

Mamelodi Sundowns’ new signing Monnapule Saleng is ruled out of Monday’s Betway Premiership clash with his former team Orbit College FC at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

The Brazilians resume their quest for a record-extending ninth PSL title and will be at home against the Mswenko Boys. They go into the match trailing log leaders Orlando Pirates by two points, with the Buccaneers having a game in hand.

Victory would see Sundowns reclaiming top spot with a point lead, but would have played two matches more than the Buccaneers. That ups the stakes for Masandawana to post a win and stay right in contention for the league title.

PSL action resumes with Sundowns having brought in three players so far during the current player transfer window. Colombian striker Brayan Leon and defender Khulumani Ndamane, who was signed from TS Galaxy, could make their debut appearances for Sundowns.

However, Saleng is unavailable after arriving at Chloorkop injured from Orbit College, where he was loaned out by Pirates.

DID SUNDOWNS KNOW ABOUT SALENG’S INJURY AND WHEN WILL HE MAKE HIS DEBUT?

While interviewing Saleng on Mamelodi Sundowns’ Pitchside Podcast, host DJ Naves confirmed that the wideman will be out for eight to 12 weeks. The player himself explained his battle with a thigh muscle tear.

“I’m carrying a quad injury. I sustained it playing against Magesi FC [on November 1, 2025] away, and I continued playing. During the game, I could feel the pain and the game was flowing; we were fighting for three points,” said Saleng.

“After that game, we went to play Chiefs [three days later]. I took tablets for the pain, but I didn’t make much of the pain. I started taking note of the pain during our game against Stellenbosch [on November 26].

“That is when I decided to have it checked. At Orbit, they were treating it, but I had not gone for scans. During the Stellies game, I was substituted in the second half because the pain was unbearable.

“Signing for Sundowns while carrying an injury is a sign and belief that they will be able to treat me to full recovery and get to help the team going forward.”
