Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has addressed his future at the club amid reports of a possible exit. It has been widely reported that the Portuguese coach could soon leave the club, with Pitso Mosimane returning to Chloorkop.
Cardoso took over the reins in December 2024 and led the team to an eighth consecutive league title last season.
The Portuguese coach also led Sundowns to a CAF Champions League final but lost out to Egyptian side Pyramids last year.
Before the 2025 AFCON break, Sundowns were trailing rivals Orlando Pirates by two points in the Betway Premiership.
But a 2-0 win against Orbit College on Monday evening saw Masandawana move back to the top of the log, despite playing two more matches than the Buccaneers.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS COACH NOT BOTHERED BY REPORTS OF HIS POSSIBLE EXIT
Speaking after the match at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Cardoso says he doesn’t give much importance to what he says, it’s just noise.
“Regarding my future. Don’t worry about my future because my future doesn’t depend on football,” he said.
“It’s just my professional life that depends on football. It’s completely different. My future depends on many other things. I am a coach of a big team. I will be criticised every time. The question here is how much importance I will give to it.
“Believe me, I will not give it too much importance. I love being here, and I will be until the day the club decides [otherwise]. The day I will go I will be for sure a normal man, ready for something different. Until then I will be committed and motivated. I am already too old to worry about things that are just noise.”

MIGUEL CARDOSO ANSWERS QUESTIONS ON HIS INSTAGRAM POSTS DURING CAMP
The 53-year-old has also shared an Instagram post, which fueled more speculation. While the speculation on his exit had intensified, Cardoso posted a quote from late singer David Bowie: “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.”
Cardoso also explained why he had to go live on the same platform during an official training session in Polokwane.
“The post about David Bowie that brought a lot of [speculation]. You know I like music, I have a huge collection of vinyl,” he explained.
“So, besides football, there are other things that I like, and one of them is music. David Bowie is one of the ones I like. You know David Bowie died 10 years ago last week. So I put it together like many people in the world, commemorating and highlighting the quality of the singer or musician and the man he was.
“If you listen to the music, it was talking about the star man in the sky. Indeed, he did say that one day he would be in a better place, and he was talking about the sky, and I chose that song. Below is a photo I wrote 10 years. But people can not understand. I don’t know. It’s just a matter of putting A plus B plus C. Why would I write 10 years in a photo of David Bowie? With the music of him talking about the music in the sky. What has that got to do with my job? It’s clear and simple.”
MASANDAWANA COACH SUGGESTS SOMEONE WANTS TO HURT THE CLUB
“Did you see the ambiance that was there in that camp? Have you seen the pleasure that those players had by watching their coaches playing against a group of workers at the Ranch in Polokwane? So the coach made a spontaneous video.
“I think that sometimes people like to find things that they can talk about and unfortunately having a phone on the hand is very dangerous for some people. There are clearly people that want to hurt Sundowns, who want to hurt people that are in charge of Sundowns, the coaches, players and everything. But they will keep frustrated because we are strong.”
