Stellenbosch FC star Devin Titus has spoken out on losing talented attacker Andre De Jong to Orlando Pirates during the current January transfer window.
De Jong signed with Pirates, who are looking to intensify their push for the Betway Premiership title and win the league for the first time since 2012. The Soweto giants are in a fierce race with Mamelodi Sundowns for the league, and they’ve made a big statement by signing big-name players before the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
Pirates signed stars such as Oswin Appollis, Sipho Mbule, and Tshepang Morem,i who have proven to be pivotal for the club in the first round of the season after lifting two domestic trophies.
The Buccaneers clinched the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup titles under the guidance of Abdeslam Ouaddou, who took over the coaching job in the off-season after parting ways with Marumo Gallants.
After an impressive first-half of the season, Pirates have been tipped as the candidate to end Sundowns’ dominance that saw them win the league for eight successive seasons.
In a bid to remain on par with Sundowns, the Sea Robbers made the triple signing of De Jong, and Marumo Gallants duo Mpho Chabatsane and Daniel Msendami to strengthen the squad in this window.
WHAT DEVIN TITUS SAID ABOUT DE JONG’S MOVE TO PIRATES

Speaking at the Nedbank Cup draw in Sandton, Titus shared his thoughts on Stellenbosch losing key players and took a moment to wish De Jong well in his new adventure at Pirates.
The 29-year-old forward has been one of the key players at the Winelands-based side in the past few seasons after featuring in over 100 appearances across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing 11 assists.
“We lost a lot of key players in the past, but for me it’s just about regaining that focus, you know. I wish Andre De Jong well; he’s a very good player,” Titus said. “I wish him all the best, but Stellenbosch has shown in the past that we can replace people and continue the Stellenbosch way.”
