Mahachi’s mindset warning to new Pirates star Daniel Msendami

Former Orlando Pirates winger Kudakwashe Mahachi has issued a candid reality check to fellow countryman Daniel Msendami, warning that competition for places at the Bucs will be fierce. Mahachi urged the speedy winger to ‘shift his mindset’ to ensure he makes a lasting impact at the club.

Msendami, a Zimbabwe international, recently represented The Warriors at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, showcasing his skills on the continental stage. However, at the Buccaneers, he faces stiff competition from Bafana Bafana internationals Tshepang Moremi, Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis.

The talented winger, who previously donned the Jwaneng Galaxy jersey, is known for his blazing pace and creative flair, having impressed with four goals and three assists in 49 Betway Premiership matches for Gallants.

With his skills and experience, he is expected to add impetus to Pirates’ squad. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is optimistic that the duo will bolster the team’s chances as they push for the remaining domestic titles, and fans are eager to see the impact of these new additions.

WHAT KUDA MAHACHI SAID

However, Msendami’s compatriot Mahachi, a former Pirates player himself, says the 25-year-old must change his mindset, as he will not get many chances of proving his worth at the Soweto giants.

“This is a big assignment. It’s not Marumo Gallants at all levels. I know he will make it, but he needs a complete change of mindset to make sure he remains in a bullish mood because this is a team that won’t give you so many chances.

“You need to keep giving good performances like Deon Hotto. You arrive as a highly rated player, but it’s easy to lose that rating if you don’t fight hard. I know he can do it; he is a good player and has the hunger, the one that’s needed when you join such a team,” Mahachi told FARPost.

It is unclear when Msendami will make his Pirates debut, with Ouaddou saying he will carefully integrate his new players. On Saturday, Pirates settled for a 0-0 draw with Sekhukhune United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
