Stellenbosch FC have bolstered their backline with Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Asekho Tiwani, following the departure of Azerbaijani international Turan Manafov. The move comes as the Winelands club navigates a busy 2025/26 domestic and continental schedule.
The 20-year-old arrives at the Danie Craven Stadium on a short-term loan, as first reported by iDiski Times, seeking the regular minutes that eluded him in Pretoria. Despite a high-profile move from Sekhukhune United to Sundowns in mid-2024, the youth international found it tough to maintain a regular starting place.
At Masandawana, Tiwani was competing for spots against established stars Aubrey Modiba and Fawaaz Basadien as well as Thato Sibiya. He is yet to make an appearance this season, having featured 15 times last season. Of his appearances last season, 11 were starts, coming off the bench four times.
A rising star in South African football, Tiwani recently showcased his potential on the global stage during the FIFA U20 World Cup.

Known for his pace and modern wing-back traits, Tiwani is expected to integrate into the squad immediately following Stellenbosch’s return from their CAF duties in Algeria.
TIWANI JOINS STELLIES AS MANAFOV HEADS BACK TO AZERBAIJAN
Tiwani’s arrival coincides with Turan Manafov’s exit. The 27-year-old, who joined Stellies at the start of the current campaign, is returning to his homeland to join Gabala FC on loan for the remainder of the season.
During his brief stint in South Africa, Manafov proved to be a reliable utility player, making 10 appearances across the Betway Premiership and cup competitions. His departure clears both a foreign player spot and a position on the team for Tiwani to fill.
Newly appointed Stellies coach Gavin Hunt will appreciate Tiwani’s versatility. His four starts at the FIFA Under 20 World Cup were all at centre-back, and he captained South Africa’s Amajita with the aplomb of a veteran.
However, he will have to compete with Omega Mdaka for that starting place at the Winelands outfit.
