Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates legends are set to battle out for a ticket to face international opponents in April.

The Soweto giants greats clash at Ellis Park Stadium on February 7, and at stake is an opportunity to meet โ€œa star-studded international teamโ€ two months later. It will also be a chance for the retired footballers to relive memories of their playing days in this Soweto Derby.

Details on when the winner will meet the international opponents have yet to be revealed, but the prospect of facing global legends is likely to give the Ellis Park battle a competitive edge.

โ€œWe thank Puzzle Pictures for the invitation, and we are looking forward to this game, knowing that a win will give our legends the chance to take on some of their international legendary peers,โ€ said Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung.

โ€œEvery derby at any level always throws up a great spectacle, and this one will be no different. We have an exciting lineup, and we are looking to thoroughly entertain the fans.โ€

The Betway Premiership heavyweights are expected to name their squads for the legends clash in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Orlando Stadium has been renamed Orlando Amstel Arena, with the Dutch beer brand winning the naming rights to the iconic football ground.

The naming rights come on a five-year deal. The stadium in Soweto is operated by Stadium Management South Africa, while the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality is the owner.ย

The renaming of the 37,000 seater follows a number of grounds in South Africa that are named after various brands for sponsorship reasons. These include FNB Stadium [formerly Soccer City] and Free State Stadium, now known as Toyota Stadium.

Cape Town Stadium is now called DHL Stadium, while Kings Park Stadium in Durban is now Hollywoodbets Kings Park.
