Kaizer Chiefs’ talented defender Aden McCarthy has weighed in on the Amakhosi’s Betway Premiership title hopes as they prepare to face Marumo Gallants on Wednesday.
The Glamour Boys are scheduled to face Bahlabane ba Ntwa at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday 28 January 2026. The kick off is at 19:30.
McCarthy, who has recently cemented his place in the starting lineup, believes the current squad depth is a major factor in their pursuit of the league’s silverware.
With the wins over Golden Arrows and Zesco United still fresh in their minds, the young defender emphasises that the mood in Naturena is in high spirits.
Currently, Chiefs are placed third on the Betway Premiership table with 27 points from 14 outings. They are just five points behind log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.

‘THE RACE IS ON’: ADEN MCCARTHY
McCarthy believes the Soweto giants are still firmly in the title race. Their goal is to maintain their winning momentum and keep their Betway Premiership triumph aspirations alive.
“Well, the race is on. We want that. We want the league title. It is very possible; we just need to keep working hard and work towards that [fighting for the league title] as our main goal,” said McCarthy.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old went to reflect on his first goal for Chiefs, which he scored against Golden Arrows in a Betway Premiership tie on Tuesday, 20 January, at the FNB Stadium.
“Scoring my first goal for the club in a league game is definitely one to remember. I found out that my father [Fabian McCarthy] and I made history by scoring against the same team, you know, as our first goals for Kaizer Chiefs,” he added.
“It is definitely one for the history books. Now, I’m looking forward to scoring many goals.”
As the second half of the season intensifies, all eyes will be on whether the young McCarthy can maintain his goal-scoring form while keeping things tight at the back.
