Kaizer Chiefs secured an important 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants in their Betway Premiership clash at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday night. The result marks a significant shift in the standings, as Amakhosi leapfrog arch-rivals Orlando Pirates into second place on the log.
The visitors started with clear intent, effectively frustrating Bahlabane ba Ntwa in the opening exchanges. Chiefs employed an aggressive high press, searching for an early goal to unsettle the home side and dictate the tempo.
As the first half progressed, the dynamic shifted. Gallants began to grow into the game, shedding their conservative start to challenge for control of the midfield.
However, the Chiefs backline remained resolute, neutralising threats before they could penetrate the danger zone. Despite the shifting momentum, both sides lacked the clinical edge required in the final third, leaving the match goalless at the interval.

MARUMO GALLANTS AND KAIZER CHIEFS LEVEL AT HALF-TIME
The showdown went into the half-time break with Gallants and the Soweto giants yet to find the back of the net, leaving both coaches with plenty to ponder.
In the second stanza, Chiefs upped the ante, dominating possession and pinning the hosts into their own half. Their ambition to break the deadlock was evident, yet the elusive opening goal remained out of reach.
While Gallants produced a resilient defensive display, with their centre-backs putting their bodies on the line, the pressure eventually told.
The defining moment arrived in the 67th minute. After a sustained period of pressure, Glody Lilepo found the pocket of space he needed to break the deadlock, sending the fans into a frenzy.
Gallants didn’t go down without a fight. As the clock ticked down, the home side looked to exploit counter-attacks, creating several clear-cut chances to level the score. However, their finishing lacked the composure needed to beat a disciplined Chiefs defence.
In the dying minutes, Amakhosi remained organised and compact, refusing to buckle under late pressure. The final whistle confirmed a hard-fought three points for the Glamour Boys, moving them into the coveted second spot and keeping the pressure on the league leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.
