Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has reacted to Glody Lilepo’s wonder strike, calling it a rare goal after it proved decisive in their narrow 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants.
Kaze was full of praise when speaking about Lilepo’s goal against Marumo Gallants on Wednesday night. The team won 1-0 in what was a tightly contested match played at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.
Most importantly, that was the Congolese striker’s second goal in 13 Betway Premiership matches. In total, he has four goals, including the two he scored in the ongoing CAF Confederations Cup.
Lilepo’s goal was enough to help Amakhosi rise to second position on the table, throwing their credentials as serious title contenders in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign.
However, Kaze has remained steadfast and was full of praise for Lilepo, who he said has overcome intense pressure to remain focused.

Kaze said Lilepo is rising up from the ashes like a phoenix after his injury during a CAF Confederations Cup match against AS Simba in October.
“It’s not a goal that you see every day. I’m happy for Lilepo that he scored that goal because after his injury against AS Simba, he was slowly coming back, and there was a little bit of pressure on him the last few weeks, but he responded well because we know that he’s a big player who can make the difference.
“Sometimes, even when you don’t want to make a rotation, it becomes a necessity. That’s why today we had to rotate a little bit without losing our balance. I’m pretty sure that the boys did well, and as well those who came in the second half,” Kaze said.
Chiefs have now put themselves firmly into contention, although the Betway Premiership race still has months to run. They have 30 points, which is two behind the log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns. Orlando Pirates are third with 28 points.
Chiefs will now shift focus to the CAF Confederations Cup, where they host ZESCO United in a Group B reverse fixture at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday. Amakhosi won the first leg 1-0 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia.
