Orbit College have completed the signing of Ghanaian defender Mohammed Aboubakar on a loan deal from Ghana Premier League side Karela United. The 25-year-old, a highly regarded figure in West African football, operates at left centre-back or as a holding midfielder, providing the Orbit coaching staff with vital depth as the season enters the second round.

Aboubakar’s stock rose significantly during his tenure with Dreams FC, where he was a standout player in their historic run to the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals.

His defensive capabilities were famously on display during a masterclass performance against Egyptian giants Zamalek in Cairo. Anchoring a resilient backline, Aboubakar helped secure a vital clean sheet away from home against one of the most experienced attacks on the continent. While Dreams FC eventually fell to the eventual champions in the return leg, Aboubakar emerged as one of the standout defenders of the tournament.

Born in Takoradi in January 2000, Aboubakar’s journey began in the youth systems of his hometown before moving to Unicon FC at age 16. His professional breakthrough came after joining Karela United in 2017.

ABOUBAKAR EXPECTED TO SOLIDIFY ORBIT’S DEFENSIVE RECORD

For Orbit, currently navigating a competitive maiden campaign, the acquisition is a clear statement of intent. Aboubakar brings versatility, as he can slot into multiple defensive and midfield roles.

He joins an Orbit side looking to solidify their defensive record. The Betway Premiership newcomers have conceded 28 goals in 16 matches. They are currently in 14th place, having played four games and amassing 13 points.

The North West club also has the services of veteran defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele. They take on Polokwane City in their next league game in Polokwane. Orbit will be hoping to pick up maximum points to move away from the relegation zone.
