Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Augustine Mahlonoko has been spotted at the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City FC.

The Northern Cape outfit is gunning for an impressive showing in the second round of the 2025/26 season to push for promotion to the Betway Premiership. Upington has had an inconsistent run in the first half of the current campaign, sitting eighth in the league table with 21 points in 15 matches.

City still has a mathematical chance of gaining promotion to the SA’s top-flight as they are nine points adrift of log leaders Milford FC, who have accumulated 30 points in 15 matches.

Bafana Ba Gucci have been participating in the Motsepe Foundation after gaining promotion from the ABC Motsepe League at the start of the 2023/24 season.

MAHLONOKO IS KEEN ON REVIVING HIS CAREER WITH UPINGTON CITY

Meanwhile, Mahlonoko is keen to revive his career after a long spell on the sidelines since parting ways with Casric Stars in January 2025.

The talented midfielder’s career has taken a turbulent turn since he parted ways with his boyhood club, Pirates, in 2020. Mahlonoko earned a place in the Buccaneers’ first team in August 2018 after impressing in the club’s development structures.

After leaving Pirates, the 24-year-old has played for teams including Baroka FC, Pretoria Callies, La Masia, Moroka Swallows, and Casric Stars.

Mahlonoko has been training with Upington City under the watchful eye of head coach Musa Nyatama, and indications are that the attacking midfielder will put pen to paper. The duo worked together during their days at Swallows.

In his early days in the PSL, Mahlonoko displayed impressive passing in the middle of the park and could add quality to Upington City’s squad.
