The Stellenbosch FC DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team has signed attacking midfielder Cazwill Williams from Eldo Spurs in Johannesburg.
The 18-year-old playmaker made a strong name for himself in the ABC Motsepe League with Thames FC in the North West, where he inspired the club to a league championship before their campaign ended in the Play-Offs.
His standout performances attracted interest from major clubs, including Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Known for his left foot and creativity, Williams, nicknamed ‘Messi,’ opted to complete his matric before committing to a move to Stellenbosch FC.
Thames FC praised his journey in a farewell message: “When we lose some, we win some. Thames Football Club wishes you all the best on your new journey, Messi.”
Williams has already made an immediate impact for the Maroons. He scored a sensational volley on his debut last Sunday to secure a 1–0 win over Polokwane City, helping Stellies maintain fourth place in the DDC standings after 16 matches.

His arrival strengthens an academy system that continues to produce elite talent for both local and international football. Jayden Adams, a former DDC standout, now plays for Mamelodi Sundowns and remains a Bafana Bafana international. Tylon Smith is another high-profile graduate, now playing for Queens Park Rangers in England after helping South Africa’s U-20 team win the Africa Cup of Nations, where he was named Player of the Tournament.
Closer to home, Devin Titus remains a key first-team player, while Langelihle Phili is emerging as one of the senior team’s best players this season.
Faiz Abrahams, an Africa U-20 Cup of Nations winner, is currently on loan at Hapoel Kfar Saba in Israel to gain senior experience.
Central midfielder Vuyolwethu Andrieas has signed a professional contract and earned promotion, alongside defender Simthandile Sishi, who captained the reserve side to multiple trophies.
Attacking midfielder Kyle Bailey and goalkeeper Dejean Ah Shene, both outstanding talents, have been promoted to full-time members of the senior team.
