Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Willard Katsande could be set for his top-flight coaching debut, with a Zimbabwean PSL side reportedly keen on his services.

The retired footballer has been focused on securing his CAF coaching badges, as well as honing budding footballers at his Kitoko Soccer School.

However, it has emerged that a Zimbabwe PSL club wants him to join as an assistant coach. Katsande himself confirmed to FARPost that he has been engaged by one of the rising clubs for the upcoming 2026 season.

Though the name has been concealed, this publication understands that the club is based in Zimbabwe’s Midlands province, where FC Platinum, TelOne FC and Hardrock FC are located.

“They are still talking to me about being an assistant coach. All I want is to be in the system, and I hope it will work,” Katsande told this publication.

If the move materialises, this will be his first professional coaching job and a return to the Zimbabwean league, having last played for the now-defunct Gunners FC between 2007 and 2010.

In recent times, Katsande has been vocal about his desire to coach the Zimbabwe national team, and he is the first to admit that he has to earn his place by rising through the ranks.

He has made serious efforts to stay in touch with his motherland as he has been touring Zimbabwe with his Under-20 squad, where they have played against teams from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in friendly matches.

On 26 January, he travelled to Zimbabwe with his Soccer School players and played against YOFT Academy and PSL side, Caps United FC.

Meanwhile, in his pursuit to be part of the national team coaching structure, he is convinced the U-17 and U-20 teams are the perfect starting point, while he works on his CAF coaching badges. He currently holds the CAF C.

The former Sekhukhune United player is angling to take up the CAF B coaching course in 2026.

Nicknamed ‘Salt and Pepper’ for his no-nonsense style, he made over 300 appearances, clinching two league titles, the Nedbank Cup, and several individual awards in the Betway Premiership.
