Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has come out to explain why they are scraping through to narrow victories in their recent games, the latest being the CAF Confederation Cup 1-0 win over Zesco United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
The Soweto giants have posted 1-0 victories in their last four games, all coming following the resumption of competitive football after the 2025 AFCON break. They edged Golden Arrows and Marumo Gallants in Betway Premiership matches while also recording similar results in back-to-back continental assignments against Zesco.
Before going for the AFCON break, Chiefs were on a two-match run without scoring goals. But they returned to play four games while grinding out results and placed themselves in a better position in their PSL title bid.
The slim wins have also seen Amakhosi handing themselves a good chance of reaching the knockouts in the Confederation Cup.
WHY CAN’T CHIEFS PULL AWAY TO BIG MARGIN WINS? BEN YOUSSEF EXPLAINSย
โI think we speak a lot with the players, we make specific work for them. Now, recently, we have had no time for a lot of work,โ Ben Youssef said.
โWe are in a situation to do just one training session before every game, so we don’t have time or space to work. But we are using videos with our analysts to advise them [the players], to give them more solutions.ย
โI think we are in a good way, but step by step, they will be better. If you remember the last two games before the break, Chippa United and TS Galaxy, we were dominating both games, but we were unlucky not to score.
โNow we improve a little bit, we are winning the games, we are scoring. I know 1-0 you are always in a critical situation because the opponent can come back and score the equaliser.
โWe are working and step by step it will be better.โ
