Lorch pens emotional farewell as he finally moves to Al Ittihad

SA star Thembonkosi Lorch has penned an emotional farewell message to Wydad AC as he finally moves to Libyan giants Al Ittihad.

Though his signing was confirmed last month, Lorch remained in Morocco for two CAF Confederation Cup fixtures before making the permanent move to Libya this week.

The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns forward played his last game for Wydad AC on Sunday, coming on as a 56th-minute substitute in a 2-1 loss to AS Maniema Union in a CAF Confederation Cup Group B match at the TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi.

The 32-year-old bid farewell to Wydad AC with an emotional message on Monday, preparing for a new challenge in his career.

“As I move on to the next chapter of my career, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to the club for the opportunity. The support and the unforgettable memories we created together,” said Lorch.ย 

“Wearing the Wydad shirt has been a true honour and privilege. I am deeply thankful to the club president [Hicham Ait Menna], management, technical staff, and all the employees. In addition, I thank my teammates for the trust, guidance, and support I received throughout my time here.ย 

“The experiences, lessons and friendships Iโ€™ve gained will stay with me for the rest of my career and my life. To the fans, thank you for your incredible passion and unwavering support. Your energy made every match special and constantly pushed us to give our very best on the pitch.ย 

“I leave with nothing but respect, appreciation and love for this great club. I wish Wydad continued success in the seasons ahead. This will always feel like home to me, and I hope our paths cross again in the future.”

Wydad AC have already found a replacement for Lorch in Bolivian international Moisรฉs Paniagua. The 18-year-old, who has five senior caps, joins from Always Ready and is a versatile attacker known for scoring goals. He is expected to add depth after Lorch’s departure.
