Former Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah is holding out for a transfer that will keep him in the Betway Premiership. Although Libyan club Al Shomooa has shown confirmed interest, the Nigerian international is eager to remain in South Africa.

Following his recent exit from the Buccaneers after 81 appearances, the 28-year-old is weighing his options. His representative, Mike Makaab of Prosport International, has clarified why the talented defender is keen to continue in the Betway Premiership.

After a gruelling period sidelined by injuries, the centre-back is prioritising a familiar environment to regain his elite form. According to Makaab, the next 12 to 24 months are pivotal for Ndah’s career longevity.

MIKE MAKAAB: ‘HE NEEDS STABILITY’

“The sporting director [of Al Shomooa] has been in contact with me. We’ve had discussions. But Olisa’s priority is to stay in South Africa,” Makaab told FARPost. “He needs stability in his life over the next 12 to 24 months. He’s recovered now from the injuries. He’s ready to compete.

“He’s mentally strong… but for him, it’s important to be in an environment that is stable. And I’m not saying Libya is unstable. But it’s a new environment. If he had been playing regularly, we probably would’ve considered it.

“Honestly, for us, it’s about finding him a home in South Africa, which I’m hoping will happen over the next few weeks. And then let’s see his progress, because all we’ve got to hope is that Olisa stays injury-free and gets back to what we all know he’s capable of doing.”

Having joined Pirates from Akwa United in 2021, Ndah has already adapted to the South African game, making it the path of least resistance for a return to peak performance.

With Makaab confirming that a number of options are on the table, the race for Ndah’s signature within South Africa is expected to heat up. Any club looking for a ball-playing centre-back with continental experience will likely be circling, provided they can offer the long-term stability the Super Eagles defender star craves.
