Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has given a fascinating take on the 2025/26 Betway Premiership title race.
The experienced mentor made remarks about the title chase during the Nedbank Cup media event in Durban, as Arrows prepares to face Orbit College FC in the Last 32 at King Zwelithini Stadium this coming weekend.
Mngqithi is aiming to deliver a domestic trophy for the KZN-based side for the first time since 2009. Interestingly, Manqoba Mngqithi is the only coach to win a major title at Arrows, having led the club to the MTN8 over 10 years ago.
The highly-rated mentor who is familiar with winning several league titles as the assistant coach at Sundowns has weighed in on the league race. He stressed that there are teams that play bad football and that could see the league championship decided earlier than expected.
Pirates are currently sitting at the summit of the log standings with 35 points in 15 matches, while Masandawana are positioned second with 32 points with the same number of games.
Chiefs are also in the mix of teams that could win the Premiership and end Sundowns dominance, which saw them win the trophy for the past eight seasons.
WHAT MANQOBA MNGQITHI SAID ABOUT TITLE RACE

“I don’t think this league is going to be decided on the last day; there are a lot of people that are playing bad football that are still fortunate,” Mngqithi said.
“I honestly don’t think this league is as difficult as people think, but I don’t want to say much. The reality is that we still have a lot to improve on in this league; my team is also included.
“And I honestly think the football this season has not been at a level that the spectators think it is, that is why I still expect big surprises in the league, I still expect the results no one anticipated.
“I foresee results that are going to be inconsistent, and that will change the face of the top four probably every weekend, but at a certain point when it settles down, I still see six points or nine points gap at the top.”
