Arthur Zwane amazed by Ngwenya’s fighting spirit, hails his maturity

Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya after a Betway Premiership match

AmaZulu FC coach Arthur Zwane has hailed Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya’s ‘impressive maturity’ after the Zimbabwean striker exhibited yet another show of warrior spirit in Tuesday’s Nedbank Cup Round of 32 match.

The Usuthu boss stated that Ngwenya has grown in stature, as he has consistently weighed in with crucial goals when the team needs him.

Ngwenya scored an extra-time goal that all but sealed AmaZulu FC’s place in the Round of 16. AmaZulu FC beat ten-man Polokwane City FC 2-1 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. They will take on KZN rivals Richards BayFC for a place in the Neabnk Cup quarter-finals.

Ngwenya has continued where he left off at FC Platinum when he left in July. He scored nine goals in the 2025 Zimbabwean season before joining Usuthu.

WHAT ZWANE SAID ABOUT THANDO NGWENYA

He has been having a fantastic 2025/26 season, where he has already contributed six goals in 14 Betway Premiership matches. As such, Zwane is excited by how the 23-year-old ‘is growing in stature’ to become their veritable goal-getter.

“Thando is growing in stature. And obviously, as a striker, you always want to score. It’s good for him, and we’re happy for him. And not only him, obviously.

“He’s there scoring goals and assisting others. But he’s more of a sniper. Trust me, if Thando took many other chances that we have created – I’m talking not half chances, but one-on-one opportunities – Thando would have been a top goal-scorer in his first season.

“But we always say everything happens for a reason. Probably, if he was a top goal-scorer, that would be too much for him. We still need him going forward. He’s more of a fighter, and I’m impressed with him today.

“The fighting spirit he showed, he never died on the field. He never gave up. He was pushing, he was pressing the keeper. He was forcing them to play the long ball so that they could do it in the air and find spaces. So, I’m very impressed. I just hope he keeps it up,” Zwane said.
