Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango has embraced the tight competition at the club and insists it can only bring out the best in him.
Msimango only recently returned from a long injury layoff just before the CAF AFCON break. He has spent around seven months on the sidelines.
The 28-year-old returns to a side that has done well this season and had been challenging for three trophies before their Nedbank cup elimination.
Aden McCarthy, Zitha Kwinika and Inacio Miguel have enjoyed more game time at the centre of defence for Chiefs this season. Amakhosi have the second-best defensive record in the league, after rivals Orlando Pirates.
They are still within a chance to challenge for the Betway Premiership and the CAF Confederation Cup. Their first task will be at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday when they face Egyptian side Al Masry.
KAIZER CHIEFS DEFENDER EMBRACES THE COMPETITION AT THE CENTER OF DEFENCE
Speaking to the media in Polokwane on Saturday ahead of the match, Msimango admitted that it has not been easy coming back to a side that is doing well to claim a position, but says it serves as motivation.
“In terms of the signings, there are quality signings. Coming back from a long injury and coming back to a team that is doing well, performing well defensively as well, it’s not easy,” he said.

“But it’s motivation because there is competition as well. It brings out the best in us. So far, they have done a great job coming in.
“I want to contribute to that fantastic job they have done, so it’s nothing but competition, and I am enjoying myself in that,” added Msimango.
GIVEN MSIMANGO WANTS TO BE PART OF HISTORY BY DOING WELL IN THE CONFEDERATION CUP
“Everyone understands the issue of progressing to the next round in this tournament. A big club like Kaizer Chiefs stands a chance to make history.
“Everyone is excited about and once you are part of that history by progressing and doing well in this tournament, progressing to the final, and even winning it. So we have an ambitious squad, an ambitious group of players, coaches and management.”
