Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa has reflected on the club’s title prospects, making an honest admission regarding their chances of clinching the Betway Premiership
Amakhosi have not won the league title since 2025, when Stuart Baxter was in charge at the club. The club has also faced some hardships in recent seasons and has missed out on a top-eight qualification for two seasons in a row.
However, the club ended the decade-long trophy drought when they won the Nedbank Cup by beating rivals Orlando Pirates last season.
CAN KAIZER CHIEFS FIGHT UNTIL THE END OF THE LEAGUE TITLE?
Amakhosi have shown signs of improvement this season and are currently in contention for the title. They sit third in the Betway Premiership, five points behind leaders Pirates, with 15 matches remaining.
They are also on the verge of a CAF Confederation Cup knockout stage qualification. Chiefs lead Group D, needing only a point against Zamalek SC on Saturday to go through.

Mthethwa says after the heartbreak of being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup, their focus now is on fighting for the league.
“The only thing that I can say is that the reason why we are playing is that we want to win the Cup [League]. So we are there, if we get a chance, we have to grab it,” he said.
SIBONGISENI MTHETHWA FOCUSED ON FIGHTING FOR THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP TITLE
“First of all, we got knocked out of the Nedbank Cup. So our main focus now is the league and the Confederation Cup. That’s the confidence that we have you understand? That is the only thing that is pushing us now. We have to fight for it.”
Amakhosi will jet off to the country for the clash against Egyptian giants Zamalek at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia on Saturday, 14 February. A draw will be enough for Amakhosi to go through to the next stage.
