Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has spoken out on whether the Soweto giants will keep co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef beyond the 2025/26 season.
Kaze and Ben Youssef took over the hot seat at Amakhosi on an interim basis following the abrupt exit of head coach Nasreddine Nabi in September 2025. The Glamour Boys parted ways with the experienced mentor despite making history and ending the club’s 10-year trophy drought after clinching the 2025 Nedbank Cup title.
Nabi arrived at Chiefs at the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season from Moroccan side AS FAR, looking to bring the club back to their glory days. Although the Tunisian mentor delivered the Nedbank Cup at Chiefs, he struggled for consistency in the league, which saw the club finish outside of the top eight in his first season.
After Nabi parted ways with Amakhosi in the first half of the season, they settled for Kaze and Ben Youssef to lead the team for the remainder of the season. Since taking over the job, the coaching duo have crashed out of the Carling Knockout Cup and Nedbank Cup; however, they are in the league title race as they are sitting third on the log standings with 30 points, with 15 matches played.
The Naturena-based side is also on course to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup knockout stage should they collect maximum points against Zamalek in the final match of the group stages.

WHAT BOBBY MOTAUNG SAID ABOUT CHIEFS’ COACHING SITUATION

โI think there’s consistency in our planning from last season and this season, in terms of player acquisition. Looking at the type quality we have now, it’s not easy for most of the players,โ Motaung said.
โWe are not where we want to be yet in terms of scoring those goals that we need to achieve what we want to achieve, but if you look at the consistency of us keeping the technical staff and managing the squad, it helped us a lot. It will help us a lot even in the future. The generation we have now is a young generation, and they really need to be given time and be patient.
โBut keeping the technical staff was more important for us because bringing a new coach and new technical staff means you have to make changes; we can’t be making changes every season, and in the middle of the season, you make changes again.
โWe don’t know yet [if Kaze and Ben Youssef will remain at Chiefs], but I’m saying currently, the reason we are where we are is because of the consistency we kept for the future. We can’t guarantee anything; football is football. We’ll see with the results going forward.โ
