Stellenbosch FC chief executive officer Rob Benadie has emphasised on the value new signing Olisa Ndah will bring to the Cape Winelands side.
The 28-year-old defender recently left Orlando Pirates to mark an end to a four-and-a-half spell with the Buccaneers. He joined the PSL in 2021 from Nigeria’s Akwa United, as a Super Eagles CHAN international.
As earlier on reported by FARPost, Ndah had reached an agreement with Stellenbosch. The club then announced his arrival in the Cape Winelands on Tuesday. After a difficult start to the season, the Maroons have moved in to strengthen their defence.
Ndah becomes the second central defender signed mid-season by Stellenbosh who also brought in former Mamelodi Sundowns star Mosa Lebusa. Just like Lebusa, Ndah has completed his move as a free agent.
The two mid-season arrivals are expected to spark fierce competition for game time at the heart of defence. Coach Gavin Gunt already has the likes of Thabo Moloisane, Henri Stanic, Athenkosi Mcaba and Siviwe Nkwali as the other centre-back options.
That might provide Ndah with similar competition he faced at Pirates. At the Buccaneers, the likes of Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Lebone Seema and Thabiso Sesane were ahead of him on the pecking order. For someone who last featured in a competitive match in September 2024, he faces a tough battle to play regular football.
However, Stellenbosch indicated that the Nigeria international defender could make his debut on Wednesday. They host struggling Magesi FC in a Betway Premiership match on Wednesday.
