Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula has made a major admission regarding Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance in the Betway Premiership—a reign that has seen the Tshwane giants claim eight consecutive league titles.

Pirates are preparing to host Sundowns in the crucial top-of-the-table clash on Wednesday night at FNB Stadium, looking to extend their lead at the summit of the log with nine points.

This past weekend, the Buccaneers moved six points clear away from the second-placed Sundowns after securing an impressive 3-0 win against Marumo Gallants at Orlando Amstel Arena.

Pirates accumulated all-important three points with goals from Yanela Mbuthuma, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Relebohile Mofokeng who netted a great solo goal to also walk away with his third successive man-of-the-match award in the league.

WHAT MAKHAULA SAID ABOUT THE TITLE RACE

The Soweto giants are in a fierce fight to dethrone Sundowns from their dominance in the Premiership. With Pirates seemingly on course to finally break their and win the league for the first time since 2012, Makhaula has admitted that seeing Masandawana dominate the league championship in this fashion has been sad to watch.

“For me, I take each and every game as a big match but with Sundowns everyone is looking forward to the game because I think somewhere, somehow it is sad always seeing them win the league,” Makhaula said.

“I can say that winning will make us happy because everyone is looking at this fixture and everyone is saying it could be the decider of the league but I’m saying what if we play a draw?

“What if we win or they win? And there are also other teams that are competing because we’re not only playing Sundowns. Those points against the other teams are important. So we need to push them hard so that they can see to win the league.”
