Jody February pens new deal at Sundowns: Contract details confirmed

FARPost has been informed that Mamelodi Sundowns have tied down goalkeeper Jody February to a new deal that will keep him at the club beyond the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

It seems the Brazilians have already kicked off preparations for the 2026/27 campaign by offering new deals to several senior players. Recent contract renewals for Divine Lunga and Sphelele Mkhulise signal the club’s intent to retain the core of their squad.

February is the latest player to commit his future to Masandawana and will continue fighting for a place in the starting line-up. The former South African junior international has seen limited game time in recent seasons, with Ronwen Williams firmly establishing himself as the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper at Sundowns.

The talented shot-stopper joined Sundowns in 2019 from Ajax Cape Town after impressing in the Mother City. However, since arriving at Chloorkop, February has struggled for regular minutes due to stiff competition from experienced campaigners like Denis Onyango, Reyaad Pieterse, and Williams.

And in his time at Sundowns, February has featured in just eight matches across all competitions, keeping three clean sheets and conceding six goals. The 29-year-old has previously spent time on loan with clubs such as Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu FC in search of regular football.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS SECURE FEBRUARY ON A TWO-YEAR DEAL

Despite the lack of game time, February is seemingly on Sundowns’ future plans as the Tshwane giants have offered him a contract renewal, affording him a chance to compete for a spot on the matchday squad under the guidance of Miguel Cardoso. According to his agent, Mike Makaab, the Cape Town-born shot-stopper signed a two-year contract with an option to renew for another year.

“I think we have to thank Mamelodi Sundowns for their professionalism with how they handled the contract of Jody February,” Makaab said in an interview with FARPost.

“So I can tell you that February will be staying with Sundowns, his future is secured. He signed a two-year contract with an option to extend for a further year. We’re hoping that he remains injury-free to compete for a place in the team because we all know that he’s a talented goalkeeper.”
