Bafana Bafana defender Rushine De Reuck has downplayed his impact at Tanzania’s Simba SC after scoring his third goal of the season and receiving a man-of-the-match award.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns netted as Simba beat Tanzania Prisoners 2-0 in a League match on Sunday.

The Steve Barker-led side has now moved six points behind log leaders JKT Tanzania with seven matches in hand. They are also three points behind rivals Young Africans.

WHY RUSHINE DE REUCK IS NOT GETTING CARRIED AWAY BY HIS PERFORMANCES

The 30-year-old had made a huge impact at Simba since joining at the beginning of the season, besides the change in the coaching department. He is also part of the team’s group of captains.

Speaking after the match, De Reuck expressed delight in scoring but insisted he is more focused on helping the team than personal glory.

“It’s important for defenders as well to score goals. It’s not only the responsibility of attackers, so I am happy with my contribution, but the most important thing is the team winning. So I am just happy that the team won, and I am happy with my contribution.โ€

EX-MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STAR SHINE AS FELLOW SOUTH AFRICAN IS USED AS A SUBSTITUTE

“A difficult game for us, you know. The pitch didn’t really allow us to play the way we wanted to. As you can see, during the game we really tried to stick to our identity. I am proud of the boys. Tanzania prisoners made it difficult for us, but we created a lot of opportunities, and we are very happy to secure the three points.”

Meanwhile, another South African, Neo Maema, came in as a second-half substitute during the match. The 30-year-old, who is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, has been used mostly as a substitute this season.
