Kaizer Chiefs on-loan striker Khanyisa Mayo has given an honest assessment of his form at the club in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
Mayo joined Amakhosi on a season-long loan from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad, aiming to revive his career after having a dip in form in North Africa. The left-footed attacker spent the previous campaign with Belouizdad after signing with the club from Cape Town City FC in July 2024. During his spell at City, Mayo established himself as one of the best goal scorers in the PSL.
In the 2022/23 season, Mayo won the Golden Boot award in the Premiership after netting 12 goals for Cape Town City. He shared the accolade with Mamelodi Sundowns forward Peter Shalulile, who scored the same number of goals in that season.
Overall, Mayo has scored 29 goals and provided six assists in 93 appearances across all competitions during his successful stint with the Cape Town-based side.
The Bafana Bafana international struggled to replicate his scoring form at CR Belouizdad, prompting the club to send him out on loan to Chiefs. Mayo played 41 matches in all competitions for his parent club, scored six goals, and chipped in with one assist.
WHAT KHANYISA MAYO SAID ABOUT HIS FORM AT CHIEFS
After just one season with Belouizdad, Mayo returned home to join Chiefs on loan with an option to make the move permanent. The former Richards Bay FC star has had a slow start to life with the Naturena-based side after scoring just one goal in 12 matches.

With Mayo seemingly struggling to form at Chiefs, the 27-year-old has admitted that competition for places in the starting line-up is tight. He’s competing with players such as Ashley Du Preez, Flavio Silva, Wandile Duba, Etiosa Ighodaro, Tashreeq Morris, and Luke Baartman for a spot in the striking department.
“There are six strikers that I’m competing with, you know, and they’ve been doing well for the club. Every time I’m called upon, I try my best to help the team and get positive results,” Mayo said.
“I’ve managed to come into games where I’ve made an impact, and I’ve managed to come to games where I didn’t make an impact, but that’s football for you. For me. It’s just to be happy for someone that’s playing ahead of me, and when it’s my time to shine, that person also has to be happy for me.”
