Following the launch of the Mamelodi Sundowns Soccer Schools, club chairman Tlhopie Motsepe has detailed the vision behind the groundbreaking initiative.
The Betway Premiership giantshave officially partnered with Global Soccer Schools, a leading force in grassroots football development.
Unveiled in Midrand on Friday, the collaboration underscores The Brazilians’ commitment to nurturing future talent. By investing in the next generation, the club aims to bolster both the PSL and the broader South African football landscape.
The partnership will see Mamelodi Sundowns Soccer Schools reach over 6,000 children across South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Under this expanded structure, the program will continue to nurture young talent, serving players aged 4 to 15. The initiative marks a significant step in the club’s global footprint, bridging the gap between grassroots football in SA and elite hubs like Manchester.
WHAT THLOPIE MOTSEPE SAID ABOUT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE MAMELODI SUNDOWNS SOCCER SCHOOLS

Sundowns chairman Thlopie Motsepe has spoken out on the Soccer Schools initiative, revealing that the programme will cater to all kids regardless of the level of their talent.
“Youth football is incredibly important to us at Mamelodi Sundowns – and of course, we hope that all the children here may one day become professional footballers. But the success of our programme is not only measured by how many professional players it produces,” said Motsepe.
“It is also measured by how many young people fall in love with the game. South African football needs more than just players for the future. We need coaches, referees, and businesspeople who will all contribute to its growth.”
In addition, the founder and technical director of the Global Soccer Schools Nick Aresti said they’re hoping to bring a meaningful development environment for young players.
“This partnership with Mamelodi Sundowns brings alignment of football development into the soccer schools and junior academy space,” he said. “By combining our experience in grassroots and foundation phase coaching with the professional structure and pathway of Mamelodi Sundowns, we believe we can create a meaningful development environment for young players. The club’s success and the way it has represented South African football across Africa and internationally make this collaboration especially significant.”
