DDC Wrap: Chiefs’ winless run continue while Pirates solidify their top spot

Orlando Pirates DDC side in celebratory mood

The latest round of the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] delivered a weekend of contrasting fortunes for South Africa’s footballing giants. While the league leaders, Orlando Pirates, solidified their dominance, others found themselves sinking further into a mid-season slump.

Pirates continued their relentless march toward the DDC title triumph with a commanding 3-1 victory over Marumo Gallants at CUT Stadium on Saturday.

The young Buccaneers showed why they are the team to beat this campaign, combining clinical finishing with tactical discipline to cement their number one spot.

With this win, Pirates have sent a clear message to the chasing pack: they have no intention of slowing down.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns kept their title aspirations burning bright with a ruthless display on the road. Facing Durban City FC, the Brazilians turned on the style to secure a comfortable 4-1 win at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

It was a must-win fixture for Sundowns to avoid losing ground in the championship race, and their four-goal blitz ensured they remained within striking distance of the summit.

Pirates currently lead the DDC table with 48 points, followed closely by Bafana Ba Style on 45 points after 21 matches. However, the Sea Robbers hold a game in hand.

KAIZER CHIEFS STRUGGLES CONTINUE IN THE DSTV DISKI CHALLENGE

On the other hand, Kaizer Chiefs saw their winless streak extend to a worrying six matches this Saturday. The young Glamour Boys were unable to find the back of the net against Sekhukhune United, resulting in a 0-0 stalemate at Isak Steyl Stadium.

While the clean sheet offers a small silver lining for the defending champions, the lack of clinical edge upfront remains a major headache for the club’s technical team, led by Vela Khumalo, as they slide further away from the top-four conversation.

As a result, Amakhosi are placed sixth on the table with 29 points after 20 outings. They are now sitting 19 points behind the log leaders, Pirates.
