SAFA president Danny Jordaan has revealed the association will hold talks with Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos regarding his looming retirement. The Belgian mentor went public last year with his plans to retire after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
During the unveiling of a new partnership with Standard Bank in Johannesburg, Jordaan stressed that coaching continuity remains a top priority. With Broos entering the final phase of his tenure, the association aims to engage the Belgian mentor who has led the national team for nearly five years.
โWEโLL STILL HAVE A CONVERSATIONโ: JORDAAN
โWe have to discuss with him. He has indicated that at the end of the contract, he will retire. We will still have a conversation,โ Jordaan said.
The SAFA president credited recent national team successes to continuity in leadership, pointing to the sustained tenures of both Broos and Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis.
Ellis has led the senior womenโs national team for several years, guiding them to major continental success, while Broos has overseen a period of rebuilding and renewed competitiveness for Bafana.

โNever in the history of South Africa did you have a coach stay the course of their contract,โ Jordaan said. โCoaches must be given the opportunity to settle the team, scan the land and decide which players are suitable for my team.โ
He acknowledged that frequent coaching changes have historically disrupted long-term planning and player development within the national setup.
โThis is one problem we realise. This cannot continue. We must give stability to the coaching staff,โ he added.
Broos, who took charge amid a challenging rebuilding phase, has been credited with restoring structure and belief within the squad. Under his tenure, Bafana have qualified for back-to-back AFCONs and the 2026 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the SAFA boss noted that the Standard Bank sponsorship was โthe most significant moment for South African football.โ โThis partnership marks an important milestone on the journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. And that comes after a 15-year wait for success at the level of Bafana.โ
Standard Bankโs Head of Brand Experience, Yolisa Koza, said the sponsorship was meant for all national teams. She described the partnership as โan investment in the future of South African football.โ
