Tembisa Hollywood Thunder have moved into second place in the SAFA Gauteng ABC Motsepe League, putting pressure on the log leaders Free Agents FC following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wits University this past weekend.
The showdown between Tembisa Hollywood Thunder and Wits University took place at the Mehlareng Stadium in Tembisa on Saturday, where the home side secured the three points necessary to keep their title hopes alive.
The victory allows the club—owned by Orlando Pirates legend Jerry Sikhosana—to leapfrog Young Pirates into the runner-up spot.
While Thunder did their job at home, league leaders Free Agents FC maintained their slim advantage with a 1-0 win against RRR Rams at Davidsonville Stadium in Roodepoort.
With only two points now separating the top two sides after 22 matches, the battle for promotion is reaching a fever pitch. Sikhosana’s men have proven they have the consistency to stay in the hunt, but they will need Free Agents to slip up in the final stretch to claim the top spot.
