Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Willard Katsande has found a new home in Zimbabwe’s Northern Region Soccer League, FARPost can reveal.

Katsande, a former Sekhukhune United midfielder nicknamed โ€˜Salt and Pepperโ€™, has concluded a deal to take over Rangers FC, a club based in the City of Chinhoyi, on a one-year contract.

The CAF C license holder has been linked with a move to Zimbabwe’s Under-20 and U-23 national teams. However, he has opted to start in the lower-tier league of Zimbabwe, hoping to rise through the coaching ranks.

Kuda Garufu, the agent handling Katsande’s business in Zimbabwe, confirmed the move to FARPost. “We concluded the deal yesterday [Thursday] for Katsande to join Chinhoyi Rangers in the first division.

“The idea is to get him a place and rise. It’s in the first division, but a good starting place for him, as we also target the PSL and eventually the national team. The other coaches will continue work at his Kitoko Soccer School,” he said.

The ex-Chiefs man will start his journey at the club on Tuesday, 10 March, after his unveiling. In addition, the league will kick off on the 14th of March. Katsande is scheduled to take a CAF B coaching course in 2026

The retired footballer, who once captained Amakhosi and Zimbabwe, has been steadily building his coaching profile. Notably, Katsande has established a promising project, Kitoko Soccer School, which has produced youthful players who have gone on to play in Zimbabweโ€™s PSL.

While investing energy in the development project, Katsande has harboured a dream of coaching the Zimbabwe national team. However, he believes in steady progress and has expressed keen interest in starting with the U-20 and U-23 teams.

Recently, ZIFA requested Katsandeโ€™s CV as they seek to assemble an U-20 technical team for the next youth tournaments. ZIFA is setting up a new Young Warriors [U-23] technical team, previously led by former Orlando Pirates DDC coach Simon Marange.
