The DStv Diski Challenge title race was blown wide open this weekend as Mamelodi Sundowns moved level on points with Orlando Pirates, who suffered a major blow after dropping crucial points.
Sundowns were the big winners of the weekend, hammering AmaZulu FC with a 5-0 scoreline at Tuks Stadium on Saturday. The Braziliansโ youngsters showed no mercy, dominating possession and clinical finishing to secure all three points.
This victory over Usuthu, boosted Bafana Ba Style’s morale; with Sundowns having equalled Pirates at the top of the table, turning the title race into an entertaining one.
As things stand, Pirates are still at the top of the DDC table with 48 points, with the same number of points with Sundowns, who occupy the second spot after 22 matches. However, the Sea Robbers hold a game in hand.
ORLANDO PIRATES STUNNED BY GOLDEN ARROWS
While Sundowns were scoring goals for fun this weekend, Pirates found it tough against a resilient Golden Arrows side. Despite going into this match as favourites, the Buccaneers were on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat at UJ Soweto Campus in front of the first team’s head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Arrows proved to be a difficult side to crack, securing a vital win that left Pirates players disappointed in themselves, as they dropped three important points at home.
However, the race for the DDC title could go either way either to Soweto or Chloorkop.
KAIZER CHIEFS’ WINNING FEELING RESTORED
On the other hand, Kaizer Chiefs ended their six-game winless run with a 2-1 win over Durban City FC at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.
As a result, Amakhosi moved to the fifth place on the log standings with 32 points after 21 outings.
The defending champions, Chiefs, are now sitting 16 points behind log leaders, Pirates.
