Brian Baloyi rips into Chiefs coaches over ‘the nonsense we see’

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi has hit out at Amakhosi co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef for what he says is their failure to get the best out of players.

The Soweto giants are deep in a crisis, highlighted by a four-match losing streak in the CAF Confederation Cup and the Betway Premiership. The rough patch has drawn the anger of Amakhosi fans, some of whom marched to Naturena on Saturday to protest against the spiralling situation.

Having failed to win the Carling Knockout Cup, Nedbank Cup and the Confederation Cup, Chiefsโ€™ bid for the Betway Premiership title has lost steam. Chances are high that they could end the season empty-handed.

Even finishing the campaign in the top eight to compete in the MTN8 next season now appears a tricky quest for Amakhosi. There has been stinging criticism of Chiefs players and coaches. Scrutiny persisted after Chiefs failed to sign a single first-team player during the 2026 January transfer window, despite some glaring areas of need in the squad.

While another Chiefs legend, Pollen Ndlanya, believes the Amakhosi squad lacks quality and is made up of โ€œordinary players,โ€ Baloyi disagrees. The former Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper says there are capable players at Naturena, but the coaches are failing to make the most of them.

โ€˜IT DOESNโ€™T TAKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST TO SEE THAT CHIEFS COACHES AREโ€ฆโ€™

โ€œThere’s nothing more to say about Chiefs. A lot has been said many times. Clearly, they don’t take any comments or advice from legends seriously,โ€ Baloyi told FARPost.ย

โ€œThey should just do the right thing. Yes, itโ€™s clear the problem is with the coaches; they have the players. Best squad they have assembled in a long time, and the coaches have failed to use the players they have. I have said it before, I donโ€™t know how to explain it anymore.

“Itโ€™s not a secret, and it doesnโ€™t take a rocket scientist to see that these coaches are inexperienced. They make four or five changes in some games. No same line-up in at least two consecutive games. To challenge for trophies, you have to be consistent, play the same team, and believe in your squad. It’s clear there is no trust between coaches and players.

โ€œAt the end of the day, you spend more time with players as coaches. The number one duty of a coach is to get the best out of the players before we talk about all the nonsense we see. Bring the best out of the players, and these coaches are failing, with no system. No qualification is going to win you matches if you donโ€™t get the best out of your players.โ€

SUGGESTING COACHES TO CHIEFS โ€˜NOW A BROKEN RECORDโ€™

A number of names have been thrown around as ideal men to take over the Chiefs job. The likes of Pitso Mosimane, Benni McCarthy and Rulani Mokwena have all been linked with Amakhosi.

โ€œFor how long have we been saying let’s have this and that coach? We can say Pitso, Benni, Manqoba [Mngqithi], but are they going to do the right thing?โ€ the ex-Bafana Bafana goalkeeper asked.

โ€œWe have to wait and see who they get. People have been suggesting. Talking about Pitso, Rulani for three years, sounds like a broken record now to say they need this type of coach.โ€
