An update has emerged on Kaizer Chiefs captain and goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, following his recent surgery. The Amakhosi keeper has not played since the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.
Petersenโs absence from the Amakhosi team sheet ahead of the derby came as a surprise, particularly given the 31-year-oldโs impressive form this season. However, Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze clarified that the goalkeeper had been hospitalised and had undergone surgery just days before the match.
The goalie has been one of Chiefsโ standout performers this campaign. The experienced shot-stopper has recorded 15 clean sheets in 27 appearances across all competitions.
WHAT IS THE LATEST ON PETERSENโS SITUATION
The Soweto giantsโ goalkeeper has reportedly been cleared to rejoin the team and commence light training. He is expected to return to practice this week after a brief medical setback.

Chiefs face a resurgent Durban City FC at the FNB Stadium on Sunday in the Betway Premiership. However, Petersen is unlikely to be ready for action, and they may still turn to Bruce Bvuma.
In the two matches where Bvuma has been in goal, Chiefs have conceded four goals. They lost 3-0 to the Bucs before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Richards Bay. The former Bidvest Wits shot-stopper, Petersen, is also a doubt for the clash against Magesi FC on 21 March.
Following this, there is a FIFA break during which Bafana Bafana will play two friendly matches. Petersen could return to action after the international hiatus. With Petersen set to return to the training pitch, Chiefs will be hopeful their first-choice goalkeeper can quickly regain full fitness as they push for a strong finish in the league.
Amakhosi are currently sixth, although they have two games in hand and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways. Pressure has been mounting after four successive losses.
