Kruger United opened a three-point gap at the summit of the Motsepe Foundation Championship after defeating title-chasing Milford FC 1-0 on Saturday, while Cape Town City FC suffered a setback against Highbury FC on Friday.

The Mpumalanga-based side bolstered their ambitions to gain promotion to the Betway Premiership with a narrow victory over the in-form Milford FC.

Kruger moved to the top of the league table with 40 points after 21 games, having claimed 11 wins, seven draws, and three defeats. Meanwhile, Milford are sitting second on the log standings with 37 points, with nine matches left before the end of the season.

Milford have enjoyed an impressive run in the past few weeks, which saw them book a place in the semi-final of the 2026 Nedbank Cup. The KZN-based outfit defeated top-flight side Sekhukhune United to advance to the last four of the competition, where they’ll face TS Galaxy.

Elsewhere, Cape Town City FC suffered a setback in the title race after losing 3-1 against Highbury FC. After dropping crucial points, the Citizens are sitting third on the log with 36 points, and they are four points adrift of leaders Kruger United.

After a sluggish start to the campaign, Cape Town City have emerged as one of the standout performers in the 2025/26 Motsepe Foundation Championship. Following their relegation from the top-flight last season, the Citizens have found their footing in the second tier, recording 10 victories and six draws, while suffering five defeats in their opening 21 fixtures.

Meanwhile, Baroka FC’s struggle for survival hit another stumbling block on Saturday as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Hungry Lions FC. Bakgakga remain mired in the relegation zone, occupying 15th place on the log. Their disappointing run has seen them collect just 18 points from 21 matches, consisting of four wins, six draws, and 11 losses.
