Mamelodi Sundowns’ DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] side sent a strong message to their title rivals, Orlando Pirates, after hammering Orbit College FC 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The victory sees the young Brazilians move to 51 points, pulling level with log leaders Pirates at the top of the table as the race for the reserve league title reaches fever pitch.
The game between Masandawana and Orbit College took place at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg. The six goals scored by the Tiro van Rooyen-coached side did not only secure the maximum points for Sundowns, but also boosted the club’s goal tally, a factor that could decide the championship should the teams remain deadlocked on points.
As things stand, the Buccaneers have a goal difference of 32, while the Chloorkop-based outfit has 31.
ORLANDO PIRATES HAMMER SIWELELE FC
On the other hand, Pirates thrashed Siwelele FC with a dominant 5-0 victory at the UJ Soweto Campus on Saturday afternoon.

The DDC title race is now a straight contest between the two giants of SA football in Pirates and Sundowns.
As Pirates currently hold the edge due to a superior goal difference, and Sundowns’ recent scoring form suggests they are hitting their peak at the perfect time, which is something the Sea Robbers need to consider in order to clinch the DDC title.
Meanwhile, defending champions, Kaizer Chiefs played to a 1-1 draw with Golden Arrows at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday. This is not a good result for Amakhosi, who recently returned to winning ways after a frustrating six-game winless run.
