Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has sent a message to frustrated Amakhosi fans, assuring them of the work they are putting in behind the scenes.
The Soweto giants played before a paltry crowd at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon when they hosted Durban City, a Betway Premiership match they laboured to a 1-0 win. The poor attendance suggested a stayaway being staged by unhappy Amakhosi supporters.
Going into the Durban City game, tensions were high between fans and the club following a four-match losing streak. The weekend before, a small group of fans marched to Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena in protest against poor results.
The Amakhosi faithful have been calling for the sacking of Kaze and his co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef. However, Chiefs managed to bounce back to winning ways against Durban City, although in an unconvincing fashion.
Picking maximum points allowed them to climb back to position five on the top-flight league table, giving them hope of a top-three finish. While the coaches have been painted as incapable of improving Amakhosiโs fortunes, Kaze insists they are not sleeping while working hard.
KAZE: โKAIZER CHIEFS FANS DESERVE BETTERโ

โI would like to thank the supporters who showed up. It was not easy weather, too [as it was raining], but they showed that they are behind the team even in difficult situations,โ Kaze told the media.ย
โThose are fans we have, and we believe that even those who were watching on TV but couldnโt be here, we have wonderful fans. What we can promise them is just to work hard every day to improve the team, and to try in every game to get a positive performance.ย ย
โI would say that I understand the frustrations. My message to them is we are not sleeping, we know the frustrations, we know that they deserve better, and they want better things.ย ย
โThe best way to support the team and show that you want better, even in these difficult times, is to come to the stadium and support the team because we know that when they are behind us. They will be the 12th man, and we are going to feel more energy with them.โ
