Sinethemba Badela and Wendell Robinson are among the key figures set to form part of Rulani Mokwena’s technical team at Al Ittihad Tripoli, as the South African coach begins assembling a trusted inner circle for his new challenge in Libya.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates head coach has arrived in Tripoli to start life as head coach of the 18-time Libya Premier League champions.
Mokwena, who recently parted ways with MC Alger, has been given full autonomy to build his backroom staff, an important factor that influenced his decision to take up the role in Tripoli. Leading that structure is Badela, a long-time ally who now reunites with Mokwena after opting against joining him in Algeria. The young coach had instead pursued opportunities at Chippa United and later Durban City FC, though both stints proved short-lived.
Robinson, meanwhile, brings continuity and experience to the goalkeeping department. Having worked alongside Mokwena at Mamelodi Sundowns and MC Alger, his inclusion ensures stability in a critical specialist role.

There are also strong indications that performance analyst Sbu Makitla could be the next addition to the technical team. Makitla has previously been part of Mokwena’s trusted group during spells at Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Athletic Club and remains highly regarded within his coaching circle.
Beyond the dugout, Mokwena will also reconnect with familiar faces on the pitch. Thembinkosi Lorch is among the players he has previously coached at Orlando Pirates, Sundowns, and Wydad, while Stephane Aziz Ki is set to finally work under the coach after being a long-term target during his time at Young Africans.
With his trusted lieutenants now falling into place, Mokwena’s focus will quickly shift to delivering on Al Ittihad Tripoli’s ambitious vision of becoming a dominant force in African football.
They currently top Group 2 of the Libyan Premier League standings after 12 games, while their crosstown rivals Al Ahly Tripoli lead Group 1. The winners of four groups will then clash in a playoff at the end of the season.
