Former SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble has identified his preferred candidate, whom he believes will deliver short-term solutions to the association. The country’s football governing body is expected to hold its elective congress later this year.
Tensions within the association have begun to escalate ahead of the elections, with some members advocating for change while others want the current president, Danny Jordaan, to run for a fourth term.
Four NEC members, Gladwin White, Emma Hendricks, Monde Montshiwa, and Orapeleng Setlhare, have reportedly been suspended following chaotic scenes at an NEC meeting last week.
There have also been some names mentioned in recent weeks as potential candidates for the presidency. The name of former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe has been mentioned in some circles.
Earlier this year, reports emerged that SAFA Northern Cape had endorsed the name of Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung for the role.
DENNIS MUMBLE SUGGESTS THAT THE SAFA CONSTITUTION NEEDS TO BE CHANGED
But Mumble, who served as the association’s CEO from 2012 until 2018, says current PSL chairman Irvin Khoza would be a perfect choice for the role.
“I think South Africa is filled with talent to run any organisation. However, the only problem I have is that SAFA must not be allowed to go to any election without fixing the constitution,โ he told FARPost.
โThat constitution prohibits the likes of Jessica [Motaung] from standing for the position in the first place. They can’t even be nominated.โ

WHY FORMER SAFA CEO BELIEVES PSL CHAIRMAN IRVIN KHOZA SHOULD BE THE ASSOCIATIONโS PRESIDENT
โBut there are plenty of people in the PSL who I think are capable of doing that [lead SAFA],โ he said.
โIf anything, my preference is to do a short-term fix of the association. I know people are going to disagree with me because he is old, but Irvin Khoza is a logical option for the presidency of SAFA to restore some credibility within the organisation, as he has done with the PSL.
โI am not saying that he is the only option, but I think the likes of Irvin Khoza would be something that we need to look at. But you can also have people like Lucas and Jessica who can restore some credibility to SAFA.
โThen there are a number of people within SAFA itself that can also restore credibility. As long as they obey the law and do not make up the rules based on their personal bias and prejudices.โ
