Rivaldo Coetzee has agreed to a deal to join Sekhukhune United following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, FARPost has been informed.

Coetzee will return to competitive football after being a free agent for the entire first round of the current season. The talented defender-cum-midfielder is starting a new chapter after having a successful spell with Sundowns, which saw him win a handful of major trophies, including the 2023 African Football League [AFL].

Coetzee spent eight seasons with the Tshwane giants after joining the club back in 2017 from Ajax Cape Town, which is now known as Cape Town Spurs. The former Bafana Bafana international signed with Sundowns as one of the best talents in the PSL at the time, and he went on to play a major role in the clubโ€™s success under different coaches.

He made over 120 appearances across all competitions for Sundowns, scoring two goals while also chipping in with six assists. The Kakamas-born star left Sundowns upon the expiry of his contract in June 2025. Before leaving Masandawana, Coetzee battled with injuries that limited his game time at the club.

Following his exit from Downs, Coetzee spent time working with his personal doctor to fully recover from injury and bring his career back on track.

A few months after parting ways with Sundowns, Coetzee began training with Sekhukhune United, eager to impress head coach Eric Tinkler and his technical team.

FARPost has learnt that the 29-year-old has done enough to convince Tinkler and has agreed to a deal in principle to sign with Babina Noko. Coetzee brings a wealth of experience from his time in the CAF Champions League and his trophy-laden spell at Chloorkopโ€”a pedigree that could prove vital for Sekhukhune in the second half of the season.

As Babina Noko aim for a top-three finish to secure CAF inter-club qualification, the utility player offers Tinkler versatile options in both central defence and defensive midfield.
