Mofokeng and Cardoso clinch back-to-back PSL monthly awards

Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng and Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso have clinched back-to-back monthly awards in the PSL.

Mofokeng has won the Betway Premiership Player of the Month for March for his stellar performances at the Soweto giants, while Cardoso has guided Sundowns to an impressive winning streak after securing four wins in four matches. As a result, he walked away with the Coach of the Match accolade.

The Bafana Bafana attacker, Mofokeng, has been instrumental for Pirates, and he’s fresh from scoring his first-ever hat trick in SAโ€™s top flight. Mofokeng scored three goals during the Buccaneersโ€™ 6-0 drubbing of TS Galaxy in the league at Mbombela Stadium before the current FIFA international break.

Mofokeng helped his side to reclaim the top spot on the log standings after collecting 52 points in 22 matches to pull away from second-placed Sundowns, who are on 50 points having played one game less.

In March, the highly-rated winger scored four goals for Pirates, which earned him the Player of the Month award. Mofokeng is winning the accolade for the second time in a row, having clinched the award for January/February.

Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Cardoso has also won the Coach of the Month for the second consecutive time after propelling his charges to a four-match unbeaten run. The Portuguese tactician has seemingly turned the corner at Sundowns after a shaky start to the 2025/26 season, prompting supporters to call for his sacking.

Cardoso is in a tight title race with Pirates as Masandawana are looking to make it nine league titles in a row, while the Sea Robbers are chasing their first league trophy since 2012.

After playing key roles for their respective clubs, Cardoso and Mofokeng emerged as winners for the March awards, whileย  Chippa United midfielder Ayabulela Konqobe won the Goal of the Month for his powerful strike against Magesi FC at Seshego Stadium.

โ€œThe Betway Premiership Monthly Awards winners for March have been confirmed, with Miguel Cardoso, Relebohile Mofokeng and Ayabulela Konqobe recognised for their performances during the month,โ€ PSL said in a statement on Thursday.

โ€œThe winners were selected by an independent panel of PSL-accredited journalists and broadcasters. Cardoso secures back-to-back Coach of the Month awards after guiding Mamelodi Sundowns to four wins from four matches, all crucial results that have strengthened their bid in the title race.

โ€œHe edged out strong competition from Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane, who has guided AmaZulu into the top three after winning two of their three fixtures in March.

“Pirates forward Mofokeng retains the Betway Premiership Player of the Month award following an impressive run of form, building on his momentum from the attacker, who has continued to play a key role in Piratesโ€™ attacking play. Across four matches, Mofokeng recorded four goals, including the first hat-trick of his professional career against TS Galaxy.

KONQOBE SCORED A POWERFUL SHOT AGAINST MAGESI FC

“Chippa United Konqobe claims his first Betway Premiership Monthly Award, winning Goal of the Month for his outstanding strike against Magesi FC at Seshego Stadium in Polokwane on 14 March. From well outside the box, Konqobe produced a powerful and precise finish, a goal already being recognised as one of the standout strikes of the season.

“As the proud title sponsor of the Premiership, Betway continues to enhance the fan experience through initiatives such as Sโ€™bonise & Win, where supporters attending matches in their club colours can win up to R20,000. The Dial Up games further offer active Betway account holders the opportunity to win up to R50,000 at selected fixtures.”
