New date confirmed for Chiefs vs Pirates showdown

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates

The Soweto Derby between Betway Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates has been rescheduled. Pirates and Chiefs were scheduled to face each other on 25 April 2026 in a league encounter, with three points and bragging rights at stake. However, the fixture has been moved to Sunday, 26 April.

The Buccaneers are aiming to complete a double over arch-rivals the Chiefs, having beaten them at FNB Stadium last month. Pirates defeated the Naturena-based side 3-0 in the league, showcasing their dominance in this fixture over the past few years.

Last season, Pirates completed a double over Chiefs after winning both league fixtures under the then-head coach Jose Riveiro, who left the club in May 2025.

Meanwhile, Pirates will come into the clash against Chiefs aiming for maximum points to keep their dream of winning the league title alive. The Sea Robbers are in a tightly contested title race with Mamelodi Sundowns, who have established themselves as the undisputed champions after winning the league for the past eight seasons in a row.

The Abdeslam Ouaddou’s charges are currently sitting at the summit of the league with 52 points in 22 games, while Sundowns are in the second position with 50 points.

On the other hand, Chiefs are desperate to beat Pirates and maintain a good run of form to secure a top-three finish on the log standings and qualify for CAF interclub competitions.

The Glamour Boys have been in an inconsistent run of form in recent months, which has put their chances of finishing in the top three at risk. Before winning their last two league matches, Chiefs suffered four successive defeats across all competitions after losing against Stellenbosch FC, Magesi FC, and Pirates. They also went down to Zamalek SC to crash out of the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.

With the last Soweto derby of the campaign on the horizon, Pirates have confirmed that their meeting with Chiefs has been moved from 25 April to the 26th without giving a reason for the date adjustment.
