Former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United right-back Siboniso Gaxa has offered reasons why Mamelodi Sundowns star Khuliso Mudau comes second behind him among the greatest ever right-sided full-backs of all time in Mzansi.

Known as ‘Pa’, Gaxa enjoyed a 15-year career, starting under Pitso Mosimane at SuperSport United, who sold their PSL status to Siwelele FC.

The Durban-born SA Football legend later starred for Sundowns, Lierse S.K. in Belgium, Chiefs, before his closing chapters at Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town [renamed Cape Town Spurs].

He became a fully established Bafana Bafana international with 57 caps, which included the 2010 FIFA World Cup and three Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] tournaments.

“I have said it before that he [Mudau] is one of the most exceptional right-backs that we currently have,” Gaxa said on the Apex Sports International podcast. “I rate him highly. I think he is one of the best. If you want to compare the best between him and me, that comparison can happen…”

SIBONISO GAXA: I SEE MYSELF WHEN I WATCH KHULISO MUDAU

Gaxa added: “He [Mudau] is exceptional, he is a player when I watch, I see myself in him. I see energy, I see someone who can defend. I know that he is not a good crosser, but he contributes in terms of assists by getting into the right area.

“But between him and me, it’s a tough one. I love myself number one [laughs], I really do love myself. And I know my limitations, and I know my strengths. I just can’t hurt my feelings, my guy [laughs hysterically]. Between him and me, the difference is such a very small percentage. It is a very small margin.

“So my top five is me, Mudau, Vuyo Mere, Cyril Nzama and the late Anele Ngcongca. He [Ngcongca] is one of my favourites. He did not play much in the PSL, but he is far better than many,” Gaxa concluded.
