Newly signed Chippa United defender Isheanesu Mauchi received high praise from Warriors coach Mario Marinica after Zimbabwe’s convincing 3-0 victory over the Botswana national football team at the Mukuru Four Nations Tournament. The Chilli Boys star was introduced in the 20th minute following an injury to Munashe Garananga and quickly made his presence felt in Warriors colours.
Calm under pressure and commanding at the back, the 23-year-old centre-back read the game superbly, cutting out danger with well-timed interceptions, while showing composure on the ball by confidently dribbling past onrushing attackers. His distribution was equally impressive, as he consistently initiated attacks with accurate and purposeful passing from the back.
The former Simba Bhora star also demonstrated strong positional awareness, providing cover for Durban City’s Emmanuel Jalai, who frequently surged forward in attack.

WHAT MARINICA SAID ABOUT MAUCHI
Speaking after the match, Marinica was full of praise for the defender’s impact, highlighting both his readiness and quality.
“There are players who had the chance today. I believe that every single player should be ready. I actually don’t call them substitutes. I call them impact players. So, every player that comes off the bench has to make an impact. And Mauchi’s done fantastic for himself, and he’s proven that the time he has spent with the national team, even though he didn’t have a chance to play, he is a quality player, and he came in, and he slotted in very well.”
Magesi’s goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze, was equally outstanding, successfully saving a penalty and keeping a clean sheet. Orlando Pirates’ Daniel Msendami also appeared, while TS Galaxy’s Junior Zindoga remained an unused substitute. Zimbabwe will now meet Zambia in the final on Tuesday. Chipolopolo beat Malawi in the other semi-final to book a place in Tuesday’s final.
RAMOREBOLI HAILS MUKURU
Meanwhile, Zebras coach Morena Ramoreboli expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mukuru for sponsoring the Four Nations Tournament, calling it a crucial platform for development.
“I always say in a game of football, we have two types of countries: those that are developing, and those that are competing. I think with this kind of tournament, it allows us, those who are developing, to get an opportunity to play against those who are competing,” Ramoreboli said.
The two-time league title winner with Jwaneng Galaxy highlighted the value of the competition in providing international exposure and aiding his squad’s growth, particularly as several players earned their first senior caps.
“At this stage, one really needs to go back and say thanks to the sponsors. It was very important for us to get this kind of a tournament because it’s not always easy to play two matches, especially during the FIFA break.”
Botswana will face Malawi in the third and fourth-place play-off on Tuesday afternoon. “The next match is very important for us to do our best to represent the badge, the country, and to make them proud,” he added.
